The Difference Between Air Scrubbers and Air Purifiers

July 26, 2017

When it comes to the world of air conditioning, there are two different devices you should know about. One of these devices is called an air scrubber while the other is known as an air purifier. Although many people think these are similar in nature, they’re actually complete opposites. Without further ado, we’ll break down the difference for both of these unique and helpful devices.

Air Scrubber

Unlike the task of scrubbing a tub or tile floor, an air scrubber doesn’t actually use a dish sponge and soap: it uses electrical power. Obvious from the terminology, an air scrubber “scrubs” unwanted debris, such as dangerous gasses, from the air, either through a wet scrubber or a dry scrubber.

Wet Scrubber

Splish splash, the air is actually taking a bath! When using a wet scrubber, this device relies on the power of water and soap to wash pollutants from the air. With force, this mechanical wonder will do the task and will eliminate airborne contaminants altogether. However, the dry scrubber uses a different method to get the job done.

Dry Scrubber

Unlike the dryness of a desert, the dry scrubber uses a unique method to remove pesky debris from the air: a fabric filter. Using the same method of air filtration as a wet scrubber (without the same materials), the dry scrubber filters the air by passing the contaminants through the fabric or mechanical filter.

Air Purifier

This universal machine is typically found in a variety of homes and local businesses, but it functions differently than an air scrubber. As effective as air purifiers are, they only skim the surface of airborne debris and orders. Air purifiers are wonderful when it comes to smaller spaces and removing orders that are less potent.
