Is it Okay to Have Wallpaper in a Bathroom?

One of the oldest forms of decorating any home is wallpaper! Coming in a variety of colors and patterns, it’s the easiest way to transform any space into something lively and wonderful. Although wallpaper is pretty simple to apply (with time and patience, of course), some are too hesitant to put it in their bathrooms — but why is that?

Could It Fall Off?

Before putting wallpaper in a bathroom, many are hesitant to decorate with it in the commode for a variety of reasons. The biggest reason? Thinking that the wallpaper could peel and fall off, simply because of the steam from a shower. If you’re having second thoughts about using this precious paper in your lavatory — then you should really go ahead and apply it! Believe it or not, wallpaper is a lot stronger than you think and can withstand the test of time in a bathroom. Dating back to the 1800s, many designers used wallpaper in a variety of rooms in a home, that endured extreme heat — since air conditioners didn’t exist!

What’s the Worst That Could Happen?

When it comes to wallpaper in a bathroom, there’s a very slim possibility that the paper will begin to unpeel in your home — unless the temperature in your space isn’t regulated properly. In many homes of today, heating/cooling units control the air temperature and make any room comfortable within a matter of seconds; this includes the bathroom, too. In addition to a maintaining, a consistent temperature in your home, a hot shower every once in a while won’t harm the wallpaper in your bathroom, since most wallpaper can withstand extreme conditions; many manufacturers are aware of this before they produce the paper product.

Can I Clean my Wallpaper Over Time?

Believe it or not, you can indeed clean wallpaper if needed! In today’s market, wallpaper is manufactured with strength and can be easily made to withstand any element that it’s faced with. If you fear that the paper will get dirty, it’s okay — because that happens in all rooms. In fact, many wallpapers can be wiped down completely and makes any bathroom nightmare (i.e. toothpaste stains) become a thing of the past.
