You've scrubbed your home from top to bottom, cleaned the cat's litter box, and washed all the dirty clothes and dishes, but you still smell some bad odors. That is beyond frustrating and it's important to identify where those smells are coming from so that you can rid yourself of them right away. Over the years, we’ve seen all kinds of terrible smells originate from HVAC systems and we want to help educate you on what those odors and causes might be.
Hidden Odors
It's definitely not your fault that those bad odors are still hanging around your home because the causes behind them are almost always hidden from your view.
Inside the Ducts: The duct system that your HVAC system uses to send the heated or cooled air to each room may sometimes be compromised by wildlife. In some cases, a squirrel, a raccoon, a rat, or a mouse may chew its way into the ducts and die. The horrible smell of decomposition may take over your entire home when that happens, and it's necessary to remove the animal, clean the area, and repair the hole made by the chewing of the animals.
Inside Your HVAC Unit: Several components of your HVAC system are susceptible to the growth of mold and mildew, and prime spots include the drip pan, the evaporator coils, and the ducts. Many different types of mold may grow within your HVAC unit, and nearly all of them cause an unpleasant musty smell. Some molds are dangerously poisonous, so it's important to have the mold removed.
Our indoor air quality specialists are available to thoroughly inspect your entire HVAC system, find the cause of the bad odors, and take the proper steps to remedy the problem. There is no charge for this assessment. So give us a call!
