Are you Guilty of These Water Wasting Habits?

Let’s face it: we all manage to waste water in one way or another — and believe it or not, sometimes you won’t even know you are! Right now, you might be asking yourself: “How am I wasting water?” or “When do I waste water?” Let us explain:

Brushing Your Teeth

One of the most common ways that water is wasted on a daily basis is by leaving the faucet on while brushing your teeth. Granted, you’ll think that this will be removing toothpaste residue in the process — but it won’t, and even more, precious water will be wasted going down the drain. Solution? Only turn the faucet on when you’re wetting your toothbrush, filling up a cup with water and then giving the finished toothbrush a quick rinse.

Taking Long Showers

Another way that water is wasted on a daily basis is due to the process of long showers. We get it: sometimes the warm shower water has a spa-like effect — but in reality, you’re wasting water and letting your water bills rise. When it comes to showering, limit each shower to approximately 5 minutes. This will be tough at first, but then you’ll realize how simple it can truly be!

Using the Dishwasher

It’s true: on a daily basis, dishes and utensils are used and must be washed — but sometimes washing them in smaller quantities is doing more harm than good. If possible, before running the dishwasher, it’s important to make sure it’s packed pretty decently (in terms of quantity). This will not only help limit the number of times you use the dishwasher, but it will also be the perfect way to use all of those utensils you that just sit in your kitchen drawer for ages!

Running the Sprinkler

When the warmer months are here, it’s very simple to overuse your sprinkler — and also overwater your lawn, too. Believe it or not, it’s best to water your lawn approximately twice a week. This will not only keep your lawn looking fresh and green, but it will also conserve water, too.
