How to Cool Your Home for Less

BY MITCH WRIGHT PLUMBING, HEATING & AIR

Summer is just around the corner and what better way to prepare than with some cooling tips! Granted: an air conditioner will help cool down your home on those hot, scorching days -- but it does require a surplus of energy. If you’re looking to ~freeze~ your home, then here are some money-saving tips to know:

Open the Windows

One of the simplest ways to keep your home cool is to open the windows. Of course, you don’t want to open them on a hot, dry day -- but if you choose to do so, make sure it’s a cool, breezy day. Not only will this lower humidity in your home, but it will also save you some funds on your electrical bill (hello, energy conservation)!

Keep the Fan On

Another way to maintain the “cool” in your home is to keep the fan on. Unlike an air conditioning unit, your fan will use the least amount of energy -- even when it’s operating for hours. Believe it or not, the trick is to keep your fan in a counter-clockwise direction. When your fan runs in this particular motion, then you’ll undoubtedly feel the difference in temperature; will make your home much more refreshing!

Use Light Thin Sheets

Looking for a way to keep cool at night? Instead of keeping your A/C unit running at full power, you can simply switch out your sheets! Why is that? Typically, when you sleep, your body is trying to maintain a neutral body temperature -- but when you have thick, massive sheets, it will only elevate your temperature. In the warmer months, opt for thin, cotton sheets, which will keep you quite cool!

Drink Plenty of Water

The best tip to beat the heat and keep cool all summer long? Stay hydrated! Just like changing the sheets on your bed, it’s important to drink plenty of water each day. This will not only keep you hydrated, but you’ll notice how much cooler your body temperature will feel when you replenish with some H2O.
