Preparing Your Home for Guests

When inviting guests over to your house, you want them to feel comfortable. In order to do this, you’ll need to set a relaxing atmosphere while ensuring they have easy access to all of the essentials. Here are some quick tips for preparing your home for guests:

Stock Your Bathrooms

Nothing is more embarrassing than being a guest in someone’s home and clogging the toilet. It gets even worse when you realize there’s no plunger and now you have to go tell someone about it. Save your friends the embarrassment and awkward encounter by making sure there is a plunger in each bathroom. That way they can take care of the clogged toilet themselves before leaving the bathroom so that you don’t have a mess to clean up afterward.

Towels are another bathroom necessity. There are a few different towel types you’ll want to have on hand depending on whether your guests will be there for a day or spending the night. Make sure to always have a hand towel in the bathroom, so guests have something to dry their hands with. However, if guests will be spending the night with you, leave out hand towels, washcloths, and full-body towels.

Set the Thermostat

When we’re home alone, we’ll usually keep the thermostat down in order to save money. However, when you’re hosting guests, you have to keep their comfort in mind. According to energy.gov, programming your thermostat to around 68 degrees in the daytime during the winter is both a comfortable and efficient temperature.

Replace the Air Filters

Having guests over is the perfect time to change the air filters in your HVAC unit, especially if your guests will be staying for a while. We recommend replacing your air filters every 30 to 90 days. If you have guests coming over and haven’t changed your air filters in quite some time, now is the time to do it.
