Autumn is the perfect time for light jackets, pumpkin picking, and most importantly: leaves in your air ducts! Even though you may not open your windows, there’s always a possibility that fall foliage can be lingering around in your unit. If you suspect you have leaves in your air ducts, or would just like to conduct a check-up, then here’s what you need to know:
Open the Vent
First and foremost, you must remove the vent to look within your air ducts. Like most standard vents, it can be removed by loosening the screws around the edges with a screwdriver. If you’re unsure how to remove the vent, then it’s important that you ask a licensed professional for assistance to avoid any possible damage.
Look Around the Air Duct
Once you successfully remove the vent, it’s time to look at the air duct. When you peer inside the duct, it’s important to look for any noticeable signs of damage before looking for leaves. If you notice that your vent has a puncture or gash, then it’s important that you get it repaired as soon as possible to prevent any further damage.
Leaf Removal
When inspecting the air duct, if you notice that leaves are present, then it’s time to clear them out. An essential tool for cleaning leaves out of an air duct is taking a vacuum with a long hose, and gently maneuvering it around the duct to get the leaves out. Once this step is complete, secure the vent back in place and your air ducts will be foliage free!
